Instaswab is an absorbent fluid sampling swab with variable tip size and shape. The patented swab is digitally manufactured with a computationally-optimized micro mesh arrangement of superior performance. InstaSwab features a full range of custom design options.

Patented Bulb Design

The hollow stent-like microstructure of the swab facilitates efficient dislodging of the target cells.

Easy Break Point

The swab is notched midway through the handle to allow the sample to be easily deposited into the test vial.

Stable Indicator

The indicator location and width can be tuned to control the depth of the insertions. The non-circular geometry prevents the swab from rolling.

Ergonomic Handle

The patterned shaft prevents slipping when wearing gloves and working with wet surfaces.

Designed For Performance

The porous microstructure of the bulb is tuned to collect and retain fluids while allowing a quick release of the sample into a vial. The strong capillary hydraulics between the swab's fibers increases fluid sample uptake and rapid release of the specimen. Lab results show that InstaSwab™ has a higher liquid/solid separation rate than conventional cotton swabs, and a higher viral or microbial transfer efficiency than market-leading flocked swabs.

Enhanced qPCR Sensitivity

A preliminary study of the OPT InstaSwab™ showed significantly improved collection and elution efficiency as compared to both the flocked swabs and traditional polyester swabs. The enhanced efficiency of InstaSwab™ has shown the potential to increase the detection limit and sensitivity of molecular assays up to an order of magnitude. Therefore, our customers benefit from an improvement in assay performance and a reduction in false negatives.
