Our Story
Spun out from MIT, our journey began with patented technology, a group of like-minded individuals, and a goal of breaking the boundary between design and manufacturing. Throughout the years, we've been launching new products, expanding our R&D capabilities, and steadily scaling our manufacturing capacity.
2019
OPT Industries Founded
OPT officially spins out of MIT and moves down the street into its first space in Cambridge MA. The team produces its first collection of materials for a sample box that showcases the microscale precision and unique forms enabled by its proprietary technology.
2020
Initial Product Launch
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, OPT delivers hundreds of thousands of units of its InstaSwab absorbent fluid sampling applicator. Later the same year, OPT introduces Lumofil for cosmetic applicators.
2021
Company Growth
OPT moves to a 14,000 sqft facility in Medford MA to support the growing product R&D and production needs.
2022
New Product Launch
OPT launches PolyBrush for use in vibratory conveyors.
2023
Cosmetic Expansion
OPT increases product offering significantly for Cosmetics industry. New products include flockless applicators, false lashes and more.
